SEO STRATEGIES FOR YOUR WEBSITE
Write a unique, descriptive title for each page. This is one of the most important on-page ranking factors. Make sure that your target keyword is towards the start of your title. Known as keyword prominence, putting your keywords towards the start of your title helps you to rank easily in the result pages.
Do not stuff your title with keywords. Write for both the search engines and users. Craft your title in such a way that it entices users to click on it. If you want to include your brand name in the title, a general formula is Keyword 1 – Keyword 2 | Brand Name.
The optimal length of the title is 50-60 characters. Anything longer than that is not displayed in the search engine result pages(SERPs).
You can change your title tag easily depending upon the CMS you are using. For WordPress, I would recommend installing Yoast SEO.
29. Meta Description
The meta description is the text that appears below each website page result in the SERPs. Although meta descriptions have no direct ranking benefit, they are still quite important to promoting your website.
Your meta description is like your sales copy. Include your keyword towards the starting. Make it descriptive, do not stuff it with keywords. If possible, run an A/B test using Adwords to gauge the effectiveness of your description.
Make sure that you have a unique description for each page. Use the Yoast SEO plugin to add a meta description in WordPress or add one by changing the content attribute in the following snippet: <meta name=”description” content=”Add your description here”>.
The optimal length for a meta description is 300-320 characters after a recent update by Google. Earlier, it used to be around 155 characters. Writing a description after proper research and thought leads to increase in Click Through Rate(CTR).
30. Keywords in Heading Tags
Including your keywords in the heading tags(<h1> – <h6>) signals to the search engines what the page is about. Using these signals, search engines can determine the relevancy of a page to a topic. A page can be ranked for a certain topic only if it is relevant to that topic.
However, don’t include the same keyword in all the heading tags. Use synonyms and variations of your main keywords e.g SEO Agency, SEO Firm, Indian SEO Company are all variations of the same keyword – SEO Company in India.
I can’t repeat this enough – write for your users first, then focus on writing for the search engines. Try to ensure that your user enjoys his time on your site. Will the user like seeing blatant keyword stuffing on a page? I doubt it.
31. Keyword in first 100 words
While not necessary, this is usually a good practice. Including your keyword in the first 100 words also signals to the users what the page is about since the first 100 words are the introductory paragraph.
Again, don’t go overboard with keyword stuffing. Maintain a good keyword density. While experts recommend not worrying about keyword density anymore, a good rule of thumb is going for the 1.5-2% mark.
32. Optimizing your images
Optimizing your images is a great way to drive traffic to your site and also gain ranking benefit. There are a number of easy steps you can follow to help rank your images.
Start out by writing a descriptive file name for the image. E.g Name your file optimize-for-image.jpeg instead of ofp19.jpeg.
Follow with writing a descriptive alt text. You can include a few keyword variations here but don’t stuff it with keywords. This passes ranking benefit as well as helping out with accessibility. Finally, focus on the image caption, surrounding text content, image embeds on other sites and image size.
33. Search Engine Friendly Navigation
Also, adopt a clean, easy-to-remember URL system. Some CMS’s produce URLs which are riddled with parameters e.g website.com/p=231&q=12. Avoid them. Use URL’s which are descriptive and try to include a keyword if possible. E.g www.seodiscovery.com/ppc-management-services-india.

If you have a website with a large number of pages, you can include an HTML sitemap. This helps people to easily find pages on your site.
35. Optimize for intent
A few years back, SEO experts recommended optimizing a single page for a single keyword. Now, times have changed.
Forget about single keywords. Google wants you to optimize for intent, evident from the introduction of Rankbrain. Think from the perspective of a user. E.g when searching for “panda”, does the user want to see results for the animal or the rap song?
Also, work with topic clusters. Don’t think in terms of keywords. Do you know why long-form content ranks better? Because of its length, the content ends up covering a topic thoroughly. This forms the basis of why Wikipedia pages tend to rank better – they talk about a topic in detail.
Every year, we are flooded with many lists about the ranking factors.Well, most of them aren’t ranking factors. They are correlations.
You can use software like Cora or Surfer SEO to check out these correlations. Basically, what they do is that they measure various on-page and off-page factors for the top ranking websites for a keyword or across a niche. We can hope to rank our own websites if we follow what these correlations say.
37. Optimize for local SEO
If you are a local business, then you should surely optimize for local search. Local SEO allows your relatively weaker websites to rank above national brands and other authority websites for your location.
Start out by including your address and phone number on every page of the website. Include the location in the title tags. List your business on Google My Business and Bing Places for Business so that you can appear on the map for a local search.
Finally, start building citations on local and industry relevant sites. The NAPW(name, address, phone, website) should be consistent with the details on your website. Try to earn links from local bloggers. Get listed on local communities, clubs, associations, business directories and other local businesses. Earn reviews on relevant websites where your business is listed such as Yelp.
This is one of the most under-utilized yet effective ways to rank your websites higher in sites. Through internal linking, you can pass around the link juice to low ranking pages.
The best thing about interlinking? You can control all aspects of it – location on the page to anchor text. Play it carefully with exact match anchor text. You don’t want to over optimize.
39. Resource Pages
These are legitimate linking opportunities specially built to link out to others. Since the sole purpose of resource pages is to link out to an appropriate & valuable resource, you can get a quality link easily if your resource is of good value.
Use this footprint to find resource link building opportunities: ‘ “keyword” + inurl:links’.
You can combine resource link building with a variety of other techniques e.g broken link building for better success.
40. Ask people you know for a link
With more and more people creating their own blogs and websites, asking friends, family, colleagues, employees & business partners for a link represents an easy yet valuable linking opportunity.
Pay attention to relevancy. Focus on getting links from relevant websites(in the same niche as you).
41. Steal your competitors’ links
Your competitor has done the hard work for you. All you have to do is replicate it. While all links can’t be replicated like a blog mention, you can find easy linking opportunities and low hanging fruit like niche directories.
I would recommend using Ahrefs for this. A simple search in Ahrefs will reveal most of the backlinks of your competitor.
42. Create link-worthy content and promote the hell out of it
You won’t acquire links if your content is sub-par. Simple as that. However, even if you create a kickass piece of content but don’t get it in front of the right people(the linkerati), you still won’t be getting any links.
Create knowledgeable, well-researched content with minimal grammar and spelling mistakes. Reach out to webmasters telling them about your new content. Send it to your email list. Do whatever you can to have maximum number of eyeballs on it.
43. Build Relationships
Building relationships with other people in your niche will result in links both in the short & long term. You can build relationships with others by actually wanting to provide value and help people, don’t just do it for the sole purpose of getting a link.
Try to help people. Do it without expecting anything. Make the effort to engage with them and is possible, talk to them. Attend local events & meetups, networking with other website owners. Participate in surveys, studies or tests. Go to conferences – you’ll learn as well as build relationships. Follow and talk to them on Twitter. Answer questions on forums, Twitter and Quora. Do it all.
If you have aggregated decent data in your industry, or have an idea for a how-to guide(known as instructographics) which would benefit others, go for an infographic. If your design skills are anything like mine, opt for a professional designer. They won’t charge you a lot and you will end up with something really better.
Promote the infographic, get it in front of the right people and have people embed it in their posts. You can even submit it to infographic submission sites to get an easy backlink.
44. Guest Blogging
This refers to offering your content to other bloggers/sites to post on their websites in exchange of a backlink. You can find bloggers using a combination of tools like MyBlogGuest and query strings like ‘keyword “submit guest post”’.
Make sure that your pitch stands out. A/B test your pitches and see which one has the maximum success rate.
Focus on providing high-quality content. Don’t treat guest blogging as simply a method to get links. You are getting an opportunity to reach a completely new audience. Don’t create a bad impression.
Finally, try to get a link from the content itself. Links from author bios don’t have as much value, however, depending on the website, author bio links are acceptable too.

Another method is to enter and win such contests, however, the chances of success here are quite slim.

You can attract links to your website by interviewing people who are considered to be authorities in your niche.
Take care of a few things – don’t ask generic questions. Spend some time preparing your questions. Also, when you publish the post on your website, make sure to link out to person you interviewed.
The act of creating content that features and talks about influencers in your industry so that those influencers share the word about your content or link out to you from their authoritative websites is known as egobait.
Interviewing an influencer or getting them to guest post on your site is an effective example of ego bait.

Creating a resource which tells people how to perform a certain task is highly valuable. Use tutorials and guides to drive traffic to your site and gather a huge number of links.
Putting out quiz/test and letting people share the results with their friends is the perfect way to go viral on social media.

Creating link roundups is a wonderful way to get yourself noticed by bloggers. Although they can be hard to create, you can publish one weekly/monthly depending upon your budget.
Don’t just list the article. Share 2-3 lines about what the article offers, how it is different and what makes it so great.

Identify bloggers who produce these link roundups and try creating a relationship with them. If you are able to establish a fruitful relationship with these people, you stand a good chance of getting your content shared.
